Day 4 - Hixton, WI to Sauk Centre, MN

The Route
Today was a 242 mile drive on a sunny day. There was an 8 mile starter section that included state and county roads through farmlands. It got us to I-94. There rest of the trip was on I-94 or detour equivalents until we got to the Sauk Centre exit.

About the Day
We were on the road by 9:45am. We got to the Sauk Centre campground about 4:00pm.

This is the greeting we got last night.

Gardens brighten our departure.

Along the Way
Interstate traffic was a bit lighter than yesterday.

Most Wisconsin interstate on/off ramps were rough and in serious need of repair. Minnesota was worse. Winter is tough on roads up here.

It seemed every interstate highway around Minneapolis and St. Cloud was being rebuilt. Orange barrels, alternate route signs and concrete barriers created quite an obstacle.  We missed a couple of route changes and had to recover.  Our actual mileage was only 4 miles further than estimated.

Heading for I-94
The fields were artwork.

We're now in Minnesota!

Travel Trivia
We passed the mystical Lake Wobegon Trail and remembered the time we saw Garrison Keillor perform in Portland.

The Campground
The Sinclair Lewis Campground is a city campground and a delight.  We're in site #3 on the shore of Sauk Lake.
Site #3

Tomorrow
We'll stay at Jamestown Campground in Jamestown, ND.

We plan to stop at a AAA Travel Center in Fargo to pick up some maps we missed.

  1. Awfully nice to see that you are getting some good weather and pretty camping places. And, seems you are the construction and detours like pros. It's pretty here too, but it's going to be very hot the next few days.
Something funny off topic. I just heard from a recent PhD student who got hired in Missoula (sp?) Montana. She was fascinated by getting an all-campus safety alert due to a bear on campus.
