The Route
Today was a 165 mile driving day. Though short, it seemed a little longer because we lost an hour as we entered the Mountain Time Zone. The entire trip was on US-20.
About the Day
The day began as a light drizzle, stayed overcast for a while, cleared to a sunny 82° with a nice breeze, became a gusting 50 mph wind advisory with dark clouds of blowing sand, and then cooled to a light rain. It definitely did not qualify as "boring".
Along the Way
Our 8:30 departure was the earliest of the trip.
Just leaving Burns, OR on US-20
Ranches, farms, ranges and fields await.
Oh, how we love the scenery of the west.
It seems like we're on the edge of the Badlands.
Some places look like the ground slipped.
We were able to shop at Walgreens and Walmart, follow the Tulsa/Ohio State game, and have a nice dinner at Mr. V's Family Restaurant because we arrived early in the day.
It was great to hear that the Buckeyes won 41-20 today.
Travel Trivia
Burns, OR gets the prize for the most expensive gas (so far) at $3.979 per gallon of regular.
The RVTripWizard software nailed it again. It and the odometer agreed we drove 165 miles.
Oddities:
- We crossed Stinkwater River shortly before cresting Drinkwater Pass.
- Idaho has a chain of gas convenience stores called "Stinker Stores". You guessed it, their mascot is a skunk.
The Campground
Abundant Life RV Campground is a very nice, new campground. They have 116 sites.
We don't think the campground is a church affiliate, but we were blessed. We got the last reservation for tonight.
Tomorrow
We have a long drive to Aspen Grove RV Park in Tremonton, UT.
The taste of the water shifts where the land slipped!🤣
